What it treats
Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy that creates fine channels in the skin that trigger its natural repair response to stimulate collagen. Microneedling can help reduce texture, fine lines, pore size, and may even help with skin tone.
SkinPen carries FDA clearance for facial acne scars in adults aged 22 and over, and for wrinkles on the neck — the two indications it was studied and reviewed for.

Suitable for most skin types, including Fitzpatrick I–VI. A cooling biocellulose masque and a calming post-procedure topical are included with every treatment.
What to expect
- Consultation. We do a general skin assessment, review medical history, and talk about your skin concerns. Lastly, develop a plan that’s right for you.
- Treatment. During your treatment, your skin will be cleansed and treated at different depths depending on what your skin needs.
- Results. Expect redness for 24–72 hours. Texture refines after one session; deeper change in scars and lines comes from a series of 3–6, spaced 4–6 weeks apart.
The device we use
Microneedling is a category, not a product. What separates a clinical result from an expensive facial is the device: how precisely it controls needle depth, whether the cartridge is sterile and single-use, and whether the whole thing has been through FDA review at all. Many devices in circulation have not.
We use the SkinPen® Precision Elite by Crown Aesthetics. SkinPen Precision was the first microneedling device to receive FDA clearance in the United States — granted in 2018 through the De Novo pathway, which is what created the regulatory category every other microneedling device is now measured against. The Precision Elite is the current model in that line.
- FDA-cleared. It went through the regulatory review that clearance requires. A pen bought online did not.
- Controlled depth. The depth is set for the area being treated, and it holds — consistently, pass after pass.
- Included aftercare. A cooling biocellulose masque and a calming post-procedure topical, every treatment.
Ask any clinic offering microneedling which device they use, and whether it is FDA-cleared. It is a fair question and the answer should be immediate.

Preparing and recovering
Before your appointment
- Stop retinol, tretinoin, exfoliating acids, and harsh skincare 5–7 days beforehand.
- No lasers, chemical peels, waxing, or threading in the treatment area for 2 weeks.
- No sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanner for 7 days.
- Stop blood-thinning supplements — fish oil, vitamin E, turmeric — 5–7 days beforehand, unless your doctor prescribed them.
- Arrive with clean skin: no makeup, lotion, or SPF.
- Hydrate, and eat something before you come.
- Please reschedule if you have an active skin infection, open lesions, cold sores, a rash, or are unwell.
After your appointment
- Expect redness, warmth, and mild swelling for 24–72 hours.
- Gentle, hydrating skincare only for 5–7 days — and only what your provider recommends.
- No retinol, exfoliants, acids, or actives for 5–7 days.
- No makeup for 24 hours; 48 is better.
- No exercise, saunas, steam rooms, swimming, or hot showers for 24–48 hours.
- Avoid sun, and use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ once the skin has settled.
- Do not pick, scratch, or exfoliate the treated skin.
